- A musical composition obtains protection in copyright law immediate to its creation in a tangible form (a score on paper/ tape etc) but is not protected from infringement unless registered with the copyright authority.
- Copyright – exclusive right:
- 1) To make copies of the song through print or recording
- 2) To distribute them to the public for profit
- 3) To the “public performance right” ; live or through a recording
- 4) To create a derivative work to include elements of the original music; and
- 5) To “display” it (not very relevant in relation to music)
